Cheerleading Shoes: How They Make Cheerleaders Feel

Cheerleading shoes are specialized shoes purpose-built for taking the stresses and strains of competitive cheerleading. They are designed to keep the foot ventilated, cushioned and protected. Also they must look great. That is a lot to ask of any shoe and we wondered whether the shoes available on the market at pretty fair prices fit the bill. We asked several cheerleaders from several different squads (All Star, High School, Rec.) for their views on cheerleading shoes and the comments were quite revealing.

“I remember when I started out I wore ordinary running shoes. Well, that lasted for about two sessions. Then my coach told me that I must invest in cheer shoes if I was going to continue. I was a bit put out by this, but she explained it was for my own safety. I tried on a friend’s Kaepa cheerleading shoes and I felt immediately that they were much better cushioned than mine. I bought a pair the following day and another pair a week later [for practice]. I see now why you need a proper cheer shoe. I would recommend anyone get a pair even before they start training.” Nadia D.

“They make me feel special that’s why I’ve got a whole collection of cheer shoes. They are the main piece of uniform I have at home, so I want lots of them! I sometimes wear them when I’m out with friends. They think I’m crazy but I don’t care. They are Kaepa cheer shoes and they are way comfortable.” Cinnamon J.

“Look, before I got into cheer I was a gymnast so I know the importance of wearing the proper gear. Looks are not important but the way the shoe is built is really vital. My coach suggested Kaepa cheer shoes so I chose that brand. They were not as expensive as I thought they would be. Virginia V.

“When I heard I had to buy cheer shoes I was like, hey, I’m not a girl! Well they way it worked out it didn’t matter that I wasn’t a girl. I’ve got Kaepa Hyperflyte cheerleading shoes now and they do it for me. My feet match the girls’ feet!” Dean P.

“Cheerleading to me isn’t about gear it’s about the team spirit and the amazing fun we have. But I bought the best cheerleading shoes I could afford anyway, Kaepa cheerleading shoes, and I must say it is great not having to worry about whether the shoe is going to be OK.” Renee B.

“Everyone I knew bought Kaepa cheerleading shoes so I got some too. They’re great, fine. I have never thought about it. I must say I have never had an injury so I guess they are perfect for me.” Tilda G.

“Tumbling is my thing and I was quite concerned about finding a suitable shoe that was versatile enough. Well, my Kaepa cheerleading shoe in the Aerial style does it for me. I have bought two pairs, which says a lot.” Belinda K.

“Uh, I dunno. I mean, they’re cute. I guess they’re special. I know they’re made especially for cheer. My mom said I must get Kaepa cheer shoes so I did. I mean, I don’t think a lot about them – except I know they’re cute.” Courtney F.

“When I was about nine I had a bicycle accident so my one ankle is weaker than the other. I was really aware that I needed a cheer shoe with good support so I got the Kaepa cheerleading shoes called Liberty 3.” Francesca V.

“I’ve got Kaepa cheerleading shoes. I like them. I would get them again.” Dianne S.

“I can’t believe how light my shoes are. I don’t see how anyone could perform cheer properly in competitions with ordinary running shoes or something like that. I bought mine when we first entered a competition. Since then I have always bought Kaepa cheerleading shoes. I must be doing something right – my squads have a top win rate.” Ray-Leen D.

“They’re like track shoes or shoes you would wear with jeans in a way but far lighter and they are sort of soft. It doesn’t matter how hard you land, if you wear proper cheerleading shoes there shouldn’t be a problem. I wear Kaepa.” Janis I.

“No one is permitted to train with me if they haven’t got the right shoes. I have learned the hard way that the wrong shoes increase the possibility of injury dramatically, and that I want to avoid at all costs.” Denny P. - Coach
